Program Outline

Format

The New Mexico High School program consists of players from different high schools working together as one team. The program is based out of the Albuquerque Riverpoint Sports and Wellness Club. As the program grows, Highpoint Sports and Wellness will take the east side Albuquerque schools for practice. Schools outside the Albuquerque metro area will practice at local facilities. When participating in events, such as the HS Nationals Tournament, each school will represent its own team, i.e. Cibola students make one team, La Cueva students another team, etc.

Development

The team members receive coaching from certified instructors and veteran players approved by the program directors.

Program Goals

The goal for this program is to develop NM HS racquetball players to be the best they can be on and off the court. Character development is an integral part of this program. As more high schools become involved our goal will be to make HS RB a bonified sport with city and state competitions, not unlike current high school athletic programs.

Funding

Funding the NM HS Racquetball program consists of sponsors, fundraising activities and entrance fees. Our goal is to keep the cost to parents and players to a minimum.

Requirements & Eligibility

Membership

All NM HS Racquetball Team players are required to have a current USA Racquetball membership. This allows the players to compete in local and national sanctioned events. Membership also provides insurance coverage for the players during sanctioned events.

Fees

The projected fees for the 2008-2009 season are $150.00.

Each player will receive a warm-up, a Dry-fit shirt, a cotton t-shirt and a pair of shorts.

Grades

All players are required to maintain a 2.5 GPA to be on this team.

Conduct

The Code of Conduct Contract must be completed by all players and parents prior to participating in the program.

Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated.

Any violations of the Code of Conduct Contract are subject to disciplinary action, including dismissal from the team.

We are looking to develop winners and champions, and instill in the players that their actions, on and off the court, are a reflection on them and NM HS Racquetball.

All coaches are also required to sign a Code of Conduct Contract.

Expectations

Training

The team will practice as a unit. Practice times are set at the beginning of each season. The season runs from August - April.

Drills and practice assignments are given as well.

All scheduled practices are mandatory.

You must call Mike or Robert in advance of any absence.

Competition

The team members are expected to compete in as many local (NM) tournaments as possible (minimum of 4). The team is expected to compete at the HS Nationals Tournament. The program will attempt to minimize the player's expenses for this trip with various fundraisers. The event currently alternates from St. Louis, MO and Portland, OR.

Travel

The HS Nationals Tournament is currently held in Oregon or Missouri. Our goal is to compete in this event every year. Though we plan to have funding to provide for this trip, there may be expenses for players that are not covered. Other trips may be introduced as well. We hope to keep these types of expenses to a minimum.
